Some of these are deviously hidden and one of them-egregiously-requires a gold medal on a Floyd mission. Besides saving all Tribals, you also have to collect the ship parts. And mostly, the levels themselves are pretty well designed and since all your characters have weapon and ammo upgrades killing drones becomes a breeze. On the bright side you do end up unlocking and visiting entirely new planets and levels. Luckily, there aren't that many levels were Tribals are actually in danger of dying. Why more? Because Tribals can be killed during a level and if that happens you have to replay the ENTIRE level over again. And you will be doing this a lot as it requires multiple characters to visit each planet, effectively making you play every level 3 times or more. Each time you visit a planet you get to sit through a 30 second unskippable cutscene showing your vessel landing. You are given free control over all three characters to visit each planet in your new quest to save all the Tribals.Juno and Vela get an upgrade that gives them a jetpack to fly around (once you fuel up on the fuel pads). This needless, waste of time takes longer than actually doing all three character paths to get to Mizar, and should have been an optional part of the game that unlocked an another ending, similar to previous Rare games. Instead, we are told that we have to save EVERY Tribal in the game and collect all 14 ship parts to repair the only ship supposedly fast enough to catch up to Mizar. Shouldn't we immediately go after him? No, of course not. After each character gets to Mizar's Castle a floating pyramid comes down and it's time to for the final battle-but wait!-Mizar flies off and is able to destroy Earth with an asteroid. Also, None of the boss battles utilize character differences and all pretty much work the same way. This is one of the many weak points of the game: while weapon diversity is quite large, many of them are simply useless against bosses. The character is stuck to a horizontal rail and can only move back and forth while attempting to dodge and damage weak points that flash only momentarily. Each character has a boss to deal with but they all work the same. This ability for Juno is not mentioned anywhere in the manual and doesn't get used anywhere in his path until Mizar's Castle, where the player is just supposed to know (somehow?) to jump through fire down a secret pit and later cross lava which appears impassable. Juno does not take damage from fire and can walk on lava. For Lupus, he can hover and maneuver in midair allowing him to cross chasms and and pits. Each character-Juno, Vela, Lupus-has a unique trait. Once you go through Vela's path you unlock the third main playable character, Lupus, whom also has his own path leading to Mizar's Castle. After a few levels of playing as Juno you unlock Vela and from there you can play two completely different paths that ultimately lead to Mizar's Castle. That's the extent of the story, which covers about 1 page of the manual. ![]() ![]() A tyrant called Mizar is terrorizing the galaxy and using his drone army to enslave the tribals. You start with Juno, a member of the Federation. My strategy was to just stick the retical in the middle and strafe back and forth. Later, once you actually get ammo aiming isn't really needed. The beginning of the game was by far the most difficult period as you are limited in health, weapons and ammo supply which, compounded with the poor controls, made dealing with flying and mobile enemies punishing. I later switched to the expert control scheme and that improved things. JFG wasn't designed for dual-stick controllers (I played on Emulator) and the classic control scheme was not intuitive. To start, the controls for aiming are really bad, like pretty much every 3rd person shooter from that era. I definitely enjoyed playing JFG but it wasn't the easiest game to get into. 19h 30m PlayedMy play through of JFG was 100%, collecting everything for every character, playing on an emulator.
